Draught at Deep Ellum, 1/18/14
Slightly chill-hazed golden-peach body is topped by an indefinitely retained white head. Plentiful bubbles rise.
Soft floral hops are joined by doughy malts and very light esters (apricot, peach). Dry in the nose, with light minerals and a hint of pepper with warming. Pretty on par with most abbey singles I’ve had. Not an earth-shattering aroma, but then, when you’re trying to keep the aroma clean, mostly hop-free and certainly dry in flavor, it dosent translate to much of an aroma. I can’t even think of any abbey singles that I can remember the nose of (maybe a chimay doree that was oxidized....). The cleanliness here is important and the restraint shown on the hops is impressive as well.
Immediately drinkable, watery (in a good way) and with some light fruitiness. Touches of bread dough and a touch of caramel sum it up malt-wise. Body is medium to medium light and while there is some bitterness to it, the esters "dominate" the finish. Perhaps just a touch too much malt texture. Lively carbonation, low acidity, lightly sweet. Classy!
