12 ounce bottle from Woodman's Sun Prairie. Hazy amber, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of yeast, pepper, plum, pale malt. Taste is yeast, spice, bubblegum, plum, stone fruit. Medium bodied, lingering yeast and spice. Nice beer. I've had 4 LL beers in the last 2 days. They've stepped up their game.

Draft at the OF. Hazy yellow. Earthy, wheaty, slight funkiness. A hint of sweet and sour yeast. Sweet flavor, almost herbal. Somewhat dry with a sugary backdrop. Coriander herbal touch really dominates. Not really like a good farmhouse ale in most respects.

Pour is a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is banana and cloves with some pepper in there. Flavor is at first a large dose of corriander with some spice left on the tounge. Not really a saison more like a wit than anythng. Still this is easy to drink and very sessionable.

Bitter. The aroma has ginger and coriander. More of this in the flavor, along with wheat. Spicy, but there could be more yeast.

Saison? Well, from the label I was expecting one, but this is all witbier to me - cloudy light golden beer - spicy nose of coriander, citrus rind, a touch of peppercorn, lavender - mildly tart, with a wheaty character to it - quite a bit of spice and floral flavors - gets a bit of a soapy quality at times - a little grainy/bready on the back end - decent.

2006 12oz bottle drunk on 8/27/06.
Very light in color, babbling with carbonation and a small, white head that is fairly well-retained, though creates little/no lacing. Thick sediment on the bottom, is impressive, this being obviously unfiltered/bottle conditioned. A very light, rosy-peach with strong golden hues and a gentle haziness, leaving the sediment behind. The head could certainly be more bountiful and dense, and create more lace, but it’s borderline 4 for appearance.
Soft, easygoing nose shows light fruit skins (pear, apple, nectarine, apricot) with a slight jolt of spicy yeast phenols and what later is determined as ginger. Definitely a fairly true-to-style yeast presence, not exactly funky or terribly farmy by any means, but zesty enough, with the appropriate phenol/ester production and no bubble gum/banana. Hops are dry, with a medium to medium-low apparency, but do add some crispness on the end. Medium strength of aroma, with no alcohol noted.
I really think the hops and malt work the best here, being at once soft from the malt, but yet dry and quenching, while the herbal hops provide a dainty bitterness and clean, crisp finish to match the spicy phenols and dry esters. Some sweetening, a bit of cotton candy and honey from the malt, as it warms, but it adds a little heft to it, keeping it from going too thin/watery. What must be ginger is apparent throughout, though never assertive or bothersome. Not sure if it helps the beer, but it dosent seem to hurt it. Natural carbonation is quite spritzy, moderately tight and keeps it sessionable, as it should, for a 5% abv summer quencher. Reminds me, somewhat, of Dupont Bio, though without the deeper complexity of that one, and certainly not quite as distinctly Belgian. But the flavorful, quenching, and hoppy character is certainly preserved and so is the low alcohol that is such a key to Dupont Bio’s success.
