Draught at Night Shift, 11/21/15.
Different than Fallen Apple in that it’s lower in alcohol by 1% and not barrel-aged.
Thick-looking, clear, wax-golden with a large white head that steadily recedes to cover.
Lots of cinnamon, apple skin and moderate nutmeg in the nose, with peppery phenolics, a tartness from perhaps the cider acidity and no alcohol or flaws noted. I really liked the way the wood mellowed out Fallen Apple, and even though this one is lighter, technically, it still comes off a bit brash and full of forceful spice, apple sugar and such.
Sweet in the mouth, not obnoxiously so or anything, and with pepper and nutmeg dryness helping things. Apple skin, tartness and a bit of caramel as well, with moderate carbonation and a sticky-to-watery texture. Again, really like what the barrel did to this, in the flavor as well, adding a dry element and giving the beer more time to develop in the barrel. Hopefully they do that again.
