Draught at CBC, 11/19/15.
Deep amber with some auburn hints and a beige head atop showing moderate retention for a sour. Moderately hazy.
A departure from their recent string of heady, perfumey brett-laced beers, this one dives deeper in to the funk, with far more acetic character. But the malt is right behind it, adding light caramel and buttercream to balance wonderfully. Says it’s spiced. Don’t smell any. Fine with me. Oak and rich earth with passing moments of red fruits (black cherry, raspberry). No alcohol or flaw.
Flavor indeed has more of an almost Flemish sour appeal to it, that is seen in the nose. Sweeter, but with deeper, rich leather, oil, oak and acetic notes. Malty, soft texture is wonderfully comforting in the face of the acids and plenty of funk lies on the finish. No spices noted (wonder what they used?), with no alcohol or flaw. Awesome.
