Soft auburn-tinged-golden body is lightly to moderately hazy with a thin off-white head that shows moderate to low retention.
Very vinous in the nose, with less brett than wood tannin and grape-like tartness. Still, there’s nothing bad here and a lot less alcohol apparency than the Funk’d Blanc. Seems somewhat sweet from the nose as well; not quite caramel but certainly more than just a light honey/base malt character. With warming, grape-like acids and soft alcohol vapors dry it out, but give it more of an aggressive edge as well. Some everpresent earthiness and more barrel tannin combine to make this an all-around unique aroma, if somewhat muddled.
The flavor is even more bizarre. Where the Funk’d blanc had clear brett expressions of lime, band aid and such with the supporting white grape and malt sweetness, this has no clear brett presence. It’s there, but it’s mixed in with a jammy wine-like flavor that in turn is mixed with a very earthy, dry woodiness. Some blandness/astringency is derived from this and it dampens the whole brightness that the brett and red wine flavors wish to express. The body is medium and well-attenuated, though with some sugar left to balance. Interesting, for sure, but maybe a bit heavy-handed on the wine and barrel character.
