It looks like a pale but tastes like a stout? That’s Hoodwink messing with your mind. Made with lactose, vanilla and white chocolate this luscious dessert beer has disguised its decadent purpose in the finery of a golden ale. Hoodwink, this is one trick you will enjoy being played on you.

Six half-pints of different Mad Squirrel beers in their High Wycombe outlet, shared with the wife on 2nd April 2018. Theydon_Bois (Colin) brought us here before the big match (Wycombe v Grimsby Town). Anyway this was one of the six, it was on-tap in keg form. Strange one really, very sweet with a white chocolate flavour and aroma, plenty of vanilla too. Golden with a white head, it looked quiet innocent, but it packed a really surprising sweet punch. My sweet tooth really liked it.

Can from Mad Squirrel, High Wycombe. Poured a hazy straw colour with a short-lived frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, chocolate, light fruit hop. The flavour is moderate bitter light sweet with a fresh, grainy, earthy mineral, sweet chocolate, vanilla, light dry hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Keg at Mad Squirrel, Amersham, Bucks. A hazy golden/yellow coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Sweet aroma of vanilla and white chocolate. Tastes similar, white chocolate, vanilla, quite sweet. An interesting white stout, I rather enjoyed it.

Keg at MS HW, 02/04/18. Lightly hazed golden blonde with a decent off white covering. Nose is white chocolate cookies, vanilla fudge, airy malts, faint coffee notes. Taste comprises sweet malts, white chocolate brioche, faint white peppery spice, cheesecake base. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough for the sub genre if a touch sweet.
