It looks like a pale but tastes like a stout? That’s Hoodwink messing with your mind. Made with lactose, vanilla and white chocolate this luscious dessert beer has disguised its decadent purpose in the finery of a golden ale. Hoodwink, this is one trick you will enjoy being played on you.

Keg at the Mad Squirrel, High Wycombe. Never had one of these new-fangled white stouts before, so was interested to try this. It's a hazy pale yellow in colour with a small white head. Up front there's a strong taste of sweet white chocolate; later on comes some milk chocolate truffle and some fudge. In the background there's an odd hint of lemony lager, which doesn't go at all. Overall this was too sweet; I couldn't help feeling it needed some nice dark roasty malts to balance it. I wasn't a fan; neither were any of the people I was out with. The barman claimed it was one of his favourite beers, but then he's paid to say that!
