Tap at FFB20, shared with the crew. I only took numerical notes while having this one.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thick, three centimetre tall light brown and tannish head that stays afloat nicely. Aroma of smoked grain, light molasses and caramelised sugars with a good dose of bready and funky yeast with the toasted grain but more of the smoked elements than anything else, and fairly strong in the nose throughout. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong smoked and dry gin flavours show up at first with a big malt profile and some toasted grain along with some specialty grains and even oatmeal noticeable, but a lighter sweetness on the tail end that brings out a good balance and some subtle yeast notes hit at the tail end. Aftertaste shows the dry yeast, smoked grain, light molasses and toffee sweetness, but the end really finishes with the funky and bready yeasts which make this go down fairly well, but very complex. Overall, a nice and nuanced beer with good layers of flavours, while being fairly easy-drinking, yet full of character throughout. Nice to sample this one and a good option for something different in a land of IPAs and sours. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Total Beverage in Thornton, Colorado on 08-May-2021 for US$3,64 sampled at my house here in Washington on 01-September-2021.

Can ordered from Cloudwater. Rich coffee aroma with tart berry undertones. Dark. A Brien tint. Creamy beige head. Initial lght-medium bitter which then takes on a sour edge and seams into a peppery sourness. The tartness gradually dominates. Light-medium bodied. Creamy. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. I like this but if I hadn't known it was a dark Saison I would have just had it down as a spicy/herby Stout. But I guess that's partly the point.
