Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish tan head. This definitely doesn't look like a kolsch to me, a dunkles or vienna, sure, but definitely not a kolsch. Aroma of grainy malts with a bit of light hops noticeable showing some more woodsy and grassy qualities and very little else - this one is pretty mild and very understated. Light-bodied; Sharp, aggressive malts show up front with some oats and subdued grain, but more of a distinct sweet and more herbal quality with some grass and hay around near the end. Aftertaste is understated as well with only grain, some sort of funky malts and a lightly toasted sugar sweetness on the end, but decently balanced, aside from this is incredibly thin and one-dimensional. Overall, a pretty poor beer that doesn't show much of a kolsch at all, aside from it being a lager beer and that it is on the lighter side of the spectrum of the beer continuum, even within lagers. This one looks like a Vienna or Dunkles and drinks more like a Helles/Dortmunder, but regardless, it's not worth spending any real money on, even though this was relatively 'affordable' at $3, it's still too much. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Trader Joe's in Falls Church (Bailey's Crossroads), Virginia on 04-September-2017 for US$2,99 sampled at home in Washington on 29-September-2017.

Bottle. Mahogany beer with a dark cream head. Light roast and nutty aroma. Nutty and light caramel flavor with light hops. Medium bodied. Nuttiness and light caramel lingers with light hops.

22 ounce bottle from Trader Joes in Princeton. Brown color topped by a small frothy beige head. Unusually dark for the Kolsch style. Faint toasted malt aroma. First sip is tangy, toasted malt flavor. Notes of dark bread and earthy grain. Light spicy, herbal hop notes in finish. Flavorful and drinkable.

Bomber from TJ’s in Davis, CA. Pours coppery amber with a white head. Aroma is somewhat roasty malt with hints of somewhat dark fruits. Kolsch? Med body, almost. Flavor is somewhat roasty, maybe a bit nutty, and the hop is kind of grassy. I’m not putting down anything exact - this is strange. Like heading towards a doppelbock. All the negativity aside, it’s a lot more flavorful and drinkable than many kolsch ales.

22oz bottle, purchased from my local Trader Joes. Poured a kind of dark ruby red color, with a pretty fluffy white head. Aroma was sweet malts, light grain, crisp grassy notes. Flavor was similar - some earthy hops, grassy notes. Light sweet malt. Pretty clean and easy to drink.

Bomber from Trader Joes Brookfield. WTF is this? Pours a clear dark red, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of earth, plum, grainy malt, herbal hops. The taste is grassy hops, earth, plum. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness. Very odd.
