Amber, poor beige head. Sweet sulphury nose. Prickly and boozy with poor balance, and bordering on dirty socks in finish. Drain pour
A reddish copper barley wine with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with vinous notes, dark fruits, licorice notes, alcohol warmth, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet caramel malt with dark fruits, vinous character, alcohol warmth, treacle, light licorice, very nice and rich. On tap at brewery.

On tap at Twa Dogs, pours a clear dark amber / burgundy with a small beige head. Nose brings out caramel malt, bready notes, and a bit of hop resins. Flavour is sickly sweet, with both a sickly sweet caramel malt character and an astringently bitter resinous hop character in terrible balance with one another. Almost medicinally sweet, with jagged hops. Pretty much a textbook example of how not to brew a barley wine. Poor.

650 ml bottle. Pours a clear deep mahogany color with moderate head. Aromas of orange peel, resin, dry toffee, and bready malts. Flavors follow same with additional bitter piney hops. Reminds me of Old Cellar Dweller before it was a triple IPA. Ready to drink. Very nice.
