Every great city has its wild side, and in 19th century San Francisco, that was the Barbary Coast. From this chaotic cauldron emerged San Francisco’s vibrant jazz culture and a rich legacy of poets, artists, writers, and entertainers. Inspired by this creative tradition, this decadent imperial stout was brewed with oak staves, sea salt, a hint of spicy chili, Dandelion Chocolate’s cacao nibs and Sightglass Coffee. Pair with rich chocolate cake and a flair for adventure!

12 oz. can, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of coffee upfront and a little chili. Flavour brings out lots of chocolate cake upfront, with a touch of chili peppers. Silky, smooth palate, with a chocolatey, spicy finish. Excellent.

Draft. A- Roasty, cocoa, vanilla. A- Black color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Chili peppers, vanilla, coconut, chocolate, roasty. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- Don’t get much coffee, or oak, or sea salt. I expected a lot more extreme flavors but it’s pretty tame and balanced. Would love to try a lot more. Reminds me of Stone Xocoveza a lot.

Tall can from Elizabeth Station. Canned on 2016-12-13. Pours an almost black with a weak dark beige head. Aroma is cold coffee, spices. Taste is sweet, coffee, chilli pepper notes. Oversweet stuff IMO. Still quite good.

Pour is a complete black with a small tan head. Aroma is coffee, roasted nuts, salt and some peppers. Flavor is a surprising sweetness at first then comes some bitter coffee and some heat from the chili peppers. The flavor of this beer is all over the place. One sip is coffee and the next is chocolate with chili heat. Weird but flavorful.

16 oz can purchased at Bottleworks. Glad to see this morning type brew make it’s way to the PNW. Coffee beers belong up here. Creamy, dark brown, almost black pour with a swirling tan head. A huge roasted coffee bean aroma. Very chocolate heavy beer here. So much rich milk chocolate and coffee. The ideal morning time beer. Amazing.
