Draught at Lord Hobo, 7/27/16.
Was surprised to see such a full, well-retained, white head topping the deep, brassy-gold body. Good clarity, as well.
Oh wow, this smells very interesting, with a strong phenolic pepperiness backed by succulent honey and a lovely mango-lychee-pineapple character that is quite authentic and not too juicy as to dominate. Seems brett-like, though maybe that’s just the tropical character mixing with the light alcohol esters. Delicate honey and light grain character behind it balances easily. Very aromatic.
In the mouth it’s got a strong tropical fruit character, as well. Tight, champagne-like carbonation gives ample, perceived body despite the beer being on the appropriately-dry side of things. Honey, light caramel and light biscuit all balance the soft perfume, lime zest and hints of band aid and pepper phenolics. I kind of had to chug half the glass, as my friends were waiting for me outside, so that kind of sucked because I was really enjoying it.
