*Jack Straw 4.2% Golden in color with a tart mandarin aroma. Medium to full. I died for a salty tart acidic golden ale. Easy drinking. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draught at the brewery, 7/24/16.
Good clarity throughout this golden-bronze body, with sunny hues and a small, white head showing moderate to low retention.
Some moderate acetic and wood tones are augmented by citrus (strong lemon, grapefruit rind) and plentiful pepper-like phenols creating a pretty aggressively tart/sour/acidic nose. There’s some biscuity malt lying behind it, providing a bit of relief, but my main complaint is that the potential delicate brett notes are drowned out by this strong acidity/acetic character. Some fruitiness does indeed emerge with warming, adding light nectarine, canteloupe and its juiciness. No alcohol, no flaw.
Nutty, tannic, even lightly bready texture shows low carbonation, high attenuation and healthy acidity on the finish. Seems a little less aggressive than the nose would suggest, with no real hard acetic character and mostly just tart brett qualities. Fruity, quite citric with moderately phenolic pepper qualities. Good, pretty basic/straightforward golden sour.
Rerate
Had again on 8/9/16, and it’s less given to the acetic character than I remember. Much less, actually, with more brett in the nose and decidedly softer all around. I wasn’t bothered by the amount of perceived acetic acid, last sample, so it doesn’t change my opinion of the beer, but it’s interesting to note. Not sure if my palate was off or if the beer has softened over the course of 16 days.

Pours hazy gold into a snifter. White head with little retention recedes to hug rim. Sour cherry aromas. Sour summer berry front to back with a mild marshmallow finish.
