Draught at Bukowski’s Cambridge, 7/8/16.
Chill hazed brass-bronze with a slight amber tint and a small, but fairly well-retained, dense, white head.
Very light toastiness in the nose is complemented by lemon rind, lime juice, white pepper and white grape. May sound kind of gross, but there’s a big backing of rich honey and light caramel malt character behind it that softens out the bitter/acidic notes and there’s no resin or alcohol and certainly no flaw.
Aroma doesn’t prepare for the flavor. That’s due in part to the fact that the texture is absolutely divine and a big part of the enjoyability of this beer. Perfectly malty-soft with fine carbonation and retaining just enough sweetness to balance the hops without fatiguing the palate/reducing drinkability. Lime, guava, nectarine, unripened apricot, white grape are perfectly pitted against the rich honey malts with a light to moderate bitterness and tending lightly sweet overall, yet immensely balanced. Was expecting a slight variant of Hoponious but this is nothing like that and shows marvelous balance and restraint on the hop bitterness.
