Pours golden with a thin white head. Aroma of acerbic rice and yeast. Taste has full bodied light and dry malt with grassy notes. Palate has golden malt, light smattering of spice with a yeasty nose note.

4 oz draft. At the source. Slightly hazy golden color. Flavor is malt forward and mildly sweet. Shows the characteristic bread flavors predominate. A hops presence is not detected. Had a light body and medium carbonation. Smooth crisp mouthfeel. Ends clean.
Overall, exactly as I was expecting. Very traditional style wise

Draught at the brewery, 5/4/16.
Mostly clear (light chill haze at most) pale golden looks the part, though the head retention is rather feeble on the small slice of white foam atop (though is initially large enough).
Much more malt-forward than hoppy, which is fine and though it’s maybe a touch more cereal-like than what I’m used to, it’s no doubt traditional kolschs are much less hoppy than present-day samples, so you can’t really expect them to be hop-forward. Hay, straw, honey, sweetbread and light pepper are all pleasant enough, with fresh yeast and no flaw or alcohol.
Malty in the mouth as well, with more sweetbread, honey, light cereal and touches of hay. It’s got a very malty texture though the attenuation is still pretty high. I’d probably prefer it a little more dry, though maybe that’s just because the hops are very light and thus not balancing the malt as much as I’m used to. Still has a moderately crisp, peppery finish, though honey and light bread linger on with it. Moderate carbonation, no alcohol or flaw.
