Draught at the brewery.
Chocolate brown body shows a good clarity and lighter, ruddy edges with a beige head atop that shows moderate to moderately-low retention.
Milk chocolate, raisins, currants and cranberries in the nose give way to light earth, damp basement and a bit of black pepper. Not intensely fruity, but certainly enough so that it’s quite easily associated with a real Belgian Dubbel. Light vanilla and hints of mild alcohol mixing with dark fruit esters on the end.
Quite carbonated and medium to medium-light bodied, even, with raisins, plums, figs and lots of milk chocolate. Earth, brown bread and hazelnut-like roastiness through middle ending on light vanilla, black pepper and sweet plums. Would like to see a bit creamier carbonation, but of course it’s hard to achieve that with Belgians on draught. Nice rendition of a dubbel. Maybe a bit too much breadiness and phenol at times.
