Draught at CBC, 2/27/16.
Dark ebony body shows light magenta tints on the edges and a tan head with low retention.
Big coffee notes in the nose are fruity and chocolatey, which is a great combination, being neither too dry, bitter and ashen nor too vinous/grapey. Light caramel-vanilla is notable, with fresh yeast and no alcohol or flaws. Not overdone on the coffee or chocolate here.
Baker’s chocolate, dusty and lightly bitter accents the fruity roastiness while notes of espresso build up slowly but yet are balanced by a moderately sweet, well-attenuated caramel character. Moderate carbonation, maybe a bit too much actually and a little bit watery overall (would like a creamier, softer consistency). Other than that, this is wonderfully flavorful, dry, but not too much so, and nicely balanced/drinkable.
