Draught at Ginger Man Boston, 3/31/17.
Bright beeswax-golden body shows a soft haziness and a small, white head atop, of moderate retention.
Indeed very fruity in the nose. Juicy tropical fruits show pineapple and papaya with a good deal more honey-like malts than expected. Dusty, lightly citric and lightly herbal hops combine with the pepper phenols to somewhat balance.
In the mouth, it’s equally juicy with intense pineapple and papaya mixing with a light caramel and graham cracker-tinged honey-like maltiness. Soft texture with medium attenuation, though not as much as usual for the style. Low, somewhat engaging carbonation and no alcohol or flaw. I like how much work they got out of the Brett without fatiguing it. It doesn’t show any of the negative bready/twangy or perfume-like character that you sometimes get but conversely the tropical notes are so intense as to dominate the beer and you get more of a glass of lightly sweet, tropical fruit juice than more of the dry, Sacch-heavy grisettes that I am used to. Whatever, just my taste and the beer is perfectly drinkable and enjoyable otherwise.
