Draught at EBF, 2/3/17.
Hazy, beeswax-maize golden body is topped by a small white head of modest retention.
Very aromatic in the nose with all sorts of plambic-esque notes including prodigious Brett, lactic and a fair showing of acetic acid, as well. Tropical fruit is quite apparent and adds plentiful vibrancy and brightness with pineapple, key lime and lemon sitting on the finish. Malts add honey and light bread, though seem less intense than in the DDG I had the night before. Cherry, barnyard, moderate oak and plentiful yellow fruit notes lingering with no alcohol or flaw.
In the mouth it’s sour, not intensely-so, but enough to dry out the beer, which is amply well-malted. Honey, light vanilla and cream are all easily balanced by the lactic and light acetic character while the Brett adds horsey funk, sweat and moderate pineapple-lime. Engaging carbonation and a lip-smacking, dry finish with malt, sour acids and tons of complex fruit notes lingering. Delicious and one of my top three favorites of the fest.
