Draught at EBF on 2/3 and the brewery, 2/12/17.
Bright, flaxen-to-beeswax yellow-golden body shows a gentle haze and a small, off-white head atop with moderate retention.
Strong herbal and grassy qualities are intertwined nicely with the malt. Honey and floral notes mix with biscuit and lots of yellow fruitiness from the yeast. There is some acidity from the herbs, I believe, as well as tons of pepper, light vinegar and acetic acid. Very complex, interesting nose that belies the vast number of adjuncts in here. Still retains its beer qualities and definitely reminds me of Jopen Koyt (which I used to love; haven’t had it in ages). No alcohol or flaw.
Very different in the mouth than what you’d expect from the nose. Despite all the floral, heathery, spicy and peppery notes, the light funky vinegar-like character and biscuity, grassy finish, the beer is surprisingly sweet and very malty with tons of rich honey, white vinegar-like character and hints of brown bread and light citrus and yellow apple on the finish. Tight carbonation, no alcohol or flaw. Maybe just a shade sweet, but the vinegar-like character helps mitigate this for the most part.
