Our version of Friend Request is a 6.9% ABV Saison. It was brewed with Vienna malt from Maine, Spelt and Rye from Massachusetts, and Cascade hops from Maine. The beer is slightly amber in color with a medium body and has a classic Saison aroma; dominant bubble gum aroma & flavor notes; hints of clove leaning towards sweet.

Draught at City Tap, 2/2/17.
Amber-copper with some darker chestnut hues, a high clarity and a small, beige head atop showing moderate retention.
Smells rather old, stale, tired, full of dry, bready specialty malt, light red fruits and perhaps a touch of phenolic pepperiness. To its credit, this is nothing like expected; no American hop notes or much bitterness at all. Rather traditional, if a bit lacking of a rich maltiness.
Oxidized and too bready in the mouth with tired carbonation and a real lack of malt depth. An odd banana ester and some various nutty and peppery notes add some interest, I suppose. No alcohol or flaw. Jacks Abby’s beers oxidize extremely quickly regardless of bottle or keg serving.

Keg pour into taster cup at NH Brewfest. Appearance is cloudy brown (like a dark cider), with minimal head, mild lacing, some sparkle. Aroma is yeast, caramel, sort of like a nut brown ale. Taste is malt dominant with minimal tart yeast. Palate is medium bodied with lively carbonation, thick texture and crisp, mildly sweet finish. Overall, pretty true to the style. I liked the Stoneface version of the collaboration better.

Bottle from Bert’s Slightly hazy dirty golden color with a good sized bubbly off white head with moderate retention. Spicy light sweet bread on the nose. Sweet bready malt with subtle earthy spicy notes. Pretty damn good biere de garde.

Pours murky amber into a shaker. White head with medium retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Pumpernickel and pepper aromas. Medium bodied with bread and pepper upfront turing to mild licorice in the lasting finish.
