Draught at Eataly 2/2 and the brewery, 2/12/17.
Dark cherry with light amber hues, good clarity and a pinkish-beige-flecked off-white head showing moderate retention.
Light tartness and strong spice character in the nose with the cherry fruitiness emerging on the end, as well. There’s a soft, mineral-laden herbal character that underlies it all, probably the gale and rosehips. Light earthiness, almost a mint character and low malt sweetness with hints of honey. No alcohol or flaw.
The flavor is more expressive, with the minty-woody spice and soft herbal flavors complementing the honey-like maltiness. Quite dry with fruitiness emerging as it warms. The cherries really make the beer, adding tartness and the fruity aspect that breaks up the spice/herb character. A touch of cereal-like graininess brings the malt in to focus and adds light honey-vanilla character. Tightly carbonated with a soft-to-slick, malty texture.
