Draught at the brewery, 3/24/18.
Lightly hazy, light-amber-to-maize. White head is small, sitting at cover.
Crystal malt is strong in the nose, unfortunately. Some bean-like character in there, as well as iced tea. Mild roast. Just tons of crystal malt character without enough base malt to ward off the unpleasant notes (just described) that come from too much of it. Very dry red fruit on end. No softness or sweetness it would appear.
Hot dog water-like, as Stacey or Chris mentions. Soft honey through the middle, growing bitter and then finishing on soft ham and lightly toasted baguette. Wow, that sure is bizarre. Surprising malt depth, however, but dry with lemon, strong grain, sourish specialty malt and ham lingering.

5 oz. draft at the source. Almost an amber color. Aroma is really different, almost like hotdog water, very subtle smoke, citrus trying to poke through. The flavor gets more smoky as it warms. Love the name and flavor.

Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a ruddy burnt red color with a sly finger’s worth of foamy white head. Dissipates nicely. Somewhat even and nice. Stringy lace.
The aroma takes on some light smoky sweet meat, somewhat like a raunchier but not so much cause there’s some toffee and caramel malts that seem to beg to differ. Grassy hops play lightly with the intake of it all.
The flavor mostly blends all of the previously mentioned aromas to boot but the sweet meatiness does fall a little bit shorter here. Sly grassy to malty sweet yet semi-smoked aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation feels good, not high nor low, just places just right.
Overall, nice red ale with some smokiness added.
