Draught at MW's 10th anniversary, 10/14/17.
Bright auburn-amber, good clarity, with a dark beige head atop showing moderate retention.
Not heavy sherry in the nose, though there is a bit of white pepper, oxidation and light earth. Hops are light at this point, with only grass, orange rind and very light grapefruit. Tons of caramel with lots of bread, earth, biscuit and other various malts. Some red/yellow fruit from the yeast/barrel, as well. Alcohol is light, but apparent, with no flaw.
In the mouth it's soft, very malty, with lower attenuation than most of their beers, though the extra time in barrel was quite beneficial, especially with the sherry which helps dry it out with all the peppery earth and nutty notes it provides. Low but engaging carbonation, very light citrus from the hops and just a bit of warming from the alcohol, on the finish. Lingering esters, sherry and complex malt character. Nice!
