Draught at the brewery, 6/29/17.
Moderately hazy, passion fruit juice-tinted, deep copper-golden with a beige-flecked, off-white head showing moderate retention.
The already juicy, brilliantly bright and wonderfully-balanced base beer is here augmented by the passion fruit which certainly adds complexity and thankfully isn’t overdone (and comes off very authentic and fresh). Tons of minerality and a hugely expressive of both yeast and lactic acid with great integration of both (and the fruit, as well). Snappy, bright acids dot the finish with a bit of pepper and grainy, fresh, raw wheat. No alcohol or flaw.
Incredibly juicy in the mouth with big lemon, passion fruit, yogurt and nectarine flavors and a tight, spritzy carbonation on top of a soft, malty, wheat-heavy texture. Great attenuation and fantastic integration of fruit and lactic character. The passion fruit definitely intensifies this and, in my opinion, is wholly unnecessary, somewhat overloading the palate. But that may just be because I love the base beer so much. Gentle malt sweetness and both fruit and lactic acidity balance each other nicely and the beer has a crisp, tart, juicy finish.
