Canned 11/21/18, drunk 1/10/19.
Dark ebony with a mahogany tint, undetermined clarity and a large tan head that fades slowly to cover.
Nose is nice! Love that orange. Can't say I usually like orange stouts as it gets to floral/acidic and sharp, which doesn't work well with the roasted character. But here it's as soft as can be. Very gently fragrant. Light coffee sits in the background with a bit of fudge. Good roastiness and the fruitiness really helps balance. Surprisingly no alcohol.
In the mouth it's soft and sweet with tons of fudge. There's good bitterness on the end and tons of chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Orange isn't as prominent here. The sugar conceals the alcohol which is nice, but it is quite sweet, probably just a touch too much, though not syrupy or cloying. This would work better as an 8% imperial with much less residual sugar but the same flavor profile. At least you can't taste the lactose. Lingering dark malt and coffee helps provide enough balance to be able to finish the entire can. Pretty impressive that I could do it pretty easily. Though not something I'd want to do often.

16oz can at the early December Ratebeer DC Tasting. Poured a nearly pitch black color with a very small light tan head. Aroma was a blast of coffee, roasted malts, with some orange and chocolate. Flavor was really nice smooth coffee, roasted malt, orange. Flavorful.
