BOXCUTTER FACELIFT X AMORY’S TOMB BREWING CO.
We’ve partnered up with our good friends, and local grindcore band, Boxcutter Facelift, to bring you a very special collaboration. One with as much jocularity as you may expect from the genre. Moustachity exists on two parallel planes: an original song written about the attack of flying bats with moustache wings, and a grindcore-inspired kveik barleywine. Over 10 years ago, this project unassumingly began in a basement that housed a decaying music and art studio as well as a budding homebrewery — which would later become the Amory’s Tomb you know today. While working on album art for Boxcutter, an idea was tossed out and Moustachity was born, beginning a decade long journey to conquer these hairy-winged beasts. Despite the date mark on the can, this beer is aging wonderfully — presenting a rounded malt profile with enough bitterness to keep you sipping for hints of raisins and bakers chocolate.

Can drunk 5/13/22. Clear, medium-ruddy-amber with a beige head atop showing moderate-to-low retention. Nose is what you'd expect - heavily fruity yeast with light, peppery phenols and plentiful honey, caramel, toast and biscuit from the malt. Nicely free of alcohol. In the mouth it's also not boozey though it still comes off strong with the warming esters and phenols and the alcohol still felt if not sharply tasted. Malts are very well-attenuated thanks to the yeast. Fruity, with strong caramel and toast. It's not sweet and boozey and is well-done for what it is, but I just find these standard barleywines so incredibly dull.
