Draught at Tip Tap Room, 9/21/21.
Brilliant, deep purple-violet with a pink/violet-tinted head that recedes steadily to cover.
Bright nose belies the beer's strength and while the black currants are inevitably acidic, there's no punchy acetic acid and the bacterial aspect feels nicely aged and mellow. Soft, honey and white bread-like malts behind offer balance and it doesn't feel hot/boozy.
In the mouth it's soft and malty but nicely attenuated while still retaining enough sweetness to gently balance the bright, tart black currant and bacterial/yeast acids. Well-aged, with even flavors and no boozy heat or flaw. Very nice. Didn't know if it was a kettle sour when I tried it and it's nice that you can immediately tell it's not.

Sample at Urban Artifact during The Extinction Event: Natural Wine & Spontaneous Beer Fest on 09/28/2019. Cloudy purple-maroon color with a medium pinkish-white head that burns away steadily to a film. Short strings of lace. Oaky and fruity aroma with blackcurrant and berry notes. Medium body with flavors of vinous oak, mildly funky yeast, blackcurrants and tart berries. The finish is tart and oaky with a wine and currant aftertaste. Good beer all around.
