The initial seed of inspiration for this beer was planted by our friend Farmer Digga of Hunts Brook Farm (Waterford, CT). His resourcefulness and curiosity have made a mark on several of our beers and when he encouraged us to pursue this one (generously providing the stinging nettles themselves) we knew to take it seriously. There’s a long, humble history, particularly in Britain and Ireland, of putting nettles to culinary use - including in the small batch production of a refreshing fermented beverage. Complimenting the lively nature of the plant we added fresh ginger from Wellstone Farm (Higganum, CT) and fresh yuzu from Bhumi Growers (Florence, NJ) - two equally passionate, knowledgeable, and uncompromising farmers. The result is a bright and herbal summertime quencher - effervescent both figuratively and literally.

Brewery draught, 9/16/22. Clear blonde, small, white head. Nettles, I guess, adding grassy, spicy, floral notes alongside the tastefully done ginger. Low yuzu, as well, with cracker malts and a clean, spicy, ginger-augmented finish. Quenching acidity and woody spice with floral notes and mildly juicy, spicy ginger. Great attenuation, lingering acidity. Clean and interesting. I get nothing like citronella or bug spray.
