Light and dark are often used as contrasts, but something special can be found where light and dark meet. That’s what inspired this beer. Traditional Bohemian floor malts, Saaz hops, and open-fermentation create a light and easy-drinking beer that is dark in appearance with a hint of sweet roast.

Can from Wegman's. Deep orange brown with a medium head. Bready malt nose, chocolate, caramel, orange notes, a bit of miso. Nutty malt flavor with a bitter hop bite, dark rye bread, orange notes. Quite malty and delicious with a full body.

16 ounce can. My 725th Top 50 beer! Chestnut brown pour. Frothy beige head. Toasted malt aroma has nutty, earthy notes. Flavor mirrors nose. Added notes of toasted bread, toffee and herbal hops. Maybe some dark fruits as well. Nicely done.

16 oz. can. Pours a clear, dark, brown color, with a big, foamy, tan head. The aroma is toffee, toast, cola, and light anise. Sweet and bready, with a mellow, herbal bitterness. Medium body, smooth, and biting. Lovely, balanced, and tasty lager.

Tip Tap draught, 5/4/23. Clear, medium-brown. Off-white head shows moderate retention. Nose is lightly bready, with cookie and honey from base malt. Clean, malty enough, moderate specialty malt adding wood and toast. Soft, malty, good malt depth, quite a bit of toast and woodiness from specialty malt but not too bad, though more than I'd prefer. Still, malt depth is excellent and it's clean and very drinkable.

Can (unintelligible date code) from Beer and Wine Nation. It's a clear mahogany with nice sparkle, 2-finger width frothy beige head with poor retention and light splotchy lacing. Aroma is roasted earthy malt and toffee. Taste is roasted earthy sweet malts as advertised, brown bread with bit of toffee and hint of dark fruit. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with smooth, frothy texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, decent strength and good representative of the style but pretty down the middle without any surprises.

Pours mahogany tinged black into a stein. Mocha head with good retention recedes leaving scant spiders. Dark caramel, brown bread and chocolate aromas. Crisp with dark caramel, toasted raisin brown bread and prunes upfront turning to chocolate covered pit fruit in the medium length finish.
