In September 2020, a great barrel broker friend of ours offered us the chance to buy twenty 10-year-old Van Winkle barrels. Luckily, we had my favorite recipe already fermenting away, O.W.K. This batch hit all its numbers and was then racked to our first Van Winkle barrels – this beer represents a blend of the first BBT from single-source distillery barrels.
These barrels found their way into Beer : Barrel : Time 2022, OWK 2023, and 8 Candles. The heart of the blend was chosen last fall for this 10-year anniversary beer – Van Winkle BBT 2023.

pitch black color. Nice dark fruit, dark chocolate, oak, bourbon, very sharp and dry nose, very similar to other side projects. Almost no carbonation, booziness derived from the bourbon. Sharp as fuck. Still very drinkable for the style. Hard to believe this is world class but still amazing beer

375ml bottle purchased at Ale Arsenal as the first event of SF Beer Week. What a legendary tasting this was! Massively complex beer that marries well. Overt chocolate, treacle, booze and vanilla. Pours black with deep brown highlights, and basically no head. Flavor is chocolate, dark fruit, whiskey, boozy and malt. Viscous mouthfeel. This was incredibly complex and enjoyable. Opened up nicely as well to give more layered flavors and aroma.

Bottle, 375 ml, shared with Luka and Miro B. Black with almost no head. Dense chocolate, cocoa, fudge, lots of barrel, intensive bourbon, moderate sweetness, oily. Getting better as it warms up.

Pours black, no head. Scent full, bourbon, roasty, sweet, chocolate. Taste is full, intense, bourbon, hcocolate, roasty. Super smooth. high alcohol is well integrated. Intense and complex. Lacks the true wow-effect for me, but there's no denying this is pretty great. ots of heath in the finish, but not over the top.

Taster from 0,375l bottle in Sint-Truiden. Black color, small white head. Smells intense bourbon, vanilla nutty, spices. Full body, soft carbonation. Tastes bourbon, vanilla buddy. Finishes lightly sweet with notes of bourbon, vanilla and nutty notes. Lovely

The nose shows intense caramel and mocha.
The palate is barely carbonated and very thick, practically chewy. Mild alcoholic burn and mildly sweet with balanced tones of caramel, bourbon, and espresso. More espresso on a long finish.
