Half-pint, well kept cask ale, outside in the beer garden of Portland Hotel (Spoons) in Chesterfield. Declining white head, spotty lacing, and a clear golden body. Citrus aromas. semi-dry, inviting. Fine blended taste of grapefruit, cereal malts and a backdrop of leafy hop bitterness. Medium bodied. Refreshing on a sunny day in Chesterfield. (30.04.2025).

Cask at Standing Order, Derby. Pours “bitter brown” with minimal off-white head. Aroma is mainly marmalade with hints of dried fruit. In the mouth it is quite sweet, with plenty of evidence of alcoholic strength . flavour of pine and a hint of citrus. Texture becomes quite cloying after a while – like drinking golden syrup ! An unusual beer for Oakham – I kept looking for their normal new world hops – and they weren’t there !

Pours an almost clear amber colour with a small creamy white head. The aroma is citrus, malts, and some pine. A moderately sweet and bitter taste, pale malts, pithy grapefruit and pine flavours with an astringent hoppy bitterness.

Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. Pale amber with a cream-coloured head. Creamy mouthfeel with bitter pine from the off. There's some grapefruit and malted milk biscuits in there too. Lightly dry finish with a lasting bitterness. The bitterness is a little overdone compared to the other flavours for me. Ok, but below what I'd normally expect from Oakham.
