No gimmicks, no frills, all the classic old-world feels. This robust dark ale was proudly made with only the finest Blue Ox Malthouse pale malt and imported color malts from William Crisp. Notes of rich baker’s chocolate, dark fruits and a touch of nutty brown malt.

Can (10/29/24) from Andover Classic Wines. Opaque dark brown, nice sparkle, cracking, decent foamy head with good retention and trace lacing. Aroma is strong roasted earthy malt--on the edge of burnt side--coffee, vague nuts. Taste is strong earthy malt, less primary roastiness than aroma but present in back half, hop bitterness. Smooth texture, soft carbonation and lightly bitter, roasty finish. A little heavy on the heavy roast/burnt/coffee side but still good.

Canned October 2023, drunk 11/23/23. Clear, dark. Large medium-dark beige head, good retention. Lots of assertive toast with licorice and dark chocolate. Clean. Malty with long choco-licorice and just a touch of syrupy oomph from base malt. Very flavorful and assertive yet not over-roasted or acidic. I actually like the licorice character and high attenuation on the finish.
