Downright® Pilsner is a deep golden color and medium bodied, with a soft round malt profile and crisp and spicy hop character on the finish. This lager is brewed in the traditional Pilsner style, using authentic Pilsner malt and noble Saaz hops. The beer carbonates completely naturally as it lagers in our fermentation tanks for six weeks.
A unique twist to Downright is the dry hop addition of Saaz hops. This additional infusion of hops gives the beer an extra refreshing bite on the finish.

Pours hazy gold with a tall, long lasting, sticky white head. Spicy hop nose. The flavor is quite subtle, there is a bit of sweetness and some hop dryness in the finish but overall it lacks the clean crisp hp bitterness and supportive malt base I like to find in good Pilsners.

Crisp golden coloured body with a nice, two centimetre tall white head. Aroma of fresh malt, light metal, a bit of sugars and a hint of dry grass. Light-bodied; Sharp pungent malt shows some depth with a hint of sweetness, a little yeast and a good dry hay character. Aftertaste shows a touch more sugars, a hint of bitterness from the malt and a little dry finish - nice. Overall, a nice beer, very refreshing with still strong hits of malt. Definitely worth trying if you can find it and it’s hot outside - a respectable beer! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Elisir Restaurant in Washington on 17-August-2012 for US$7.

12oz bottle pours a lightly hazy, deep gold with some creamy white head. Nose of grass, lemon, malty, yeast, hay, a little metallic. Flavor is sweet, malty, hay, lemon, grass, light honey. Medium bodied, crisp finish. Exactly what it says... a down right, well done pilsner.

Total Wine, Fairfax 355ml ($1.80): Pours a golden colour with a white head. Aroma is grass, grain, German hops, and straw. Taste is moderately bitter, but not that intense. Sweetness is minimal, if at all present. Body is excellent. I suppose that the freshness of this beer gives it an extra point or two, but this was a very nice crisp, bitter pils. I think Port City is really getting its act together and is putting out some very well-made sessions.

Draft at NOVA BrewFest. Poured a mostly clear amber color with a white head. Aroma was grassy notes, touch of herbal hop notes, touch of bread. Flavor was mostly crisp malts, touch of grass, notes of citrus, bready malts. I think they may have nailed it, but pilsener is certainly not my favorite style, so this one is a bit tough for me to rate.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Pours a hazy orange-amber color with a medium sized frothy white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of big grassy hops, pale malts, a little bready and some corn. The taste is grassy hops, grapefruit and other citrus, bready malts. Medium bodied. A little on the strange side but not bad.
