Pours mahogany tinged black into a willi. Mocha head with medium retention turns soapy and recedes leaving spider lacing. Earthy raisin bread and pumpernickel aromas. Thin with sweet raisin bread, soy and licorice upfront turning to toasted pumpernickel and dark chocolate in the dry, lasting finish. Improves as it warms.

Brewery draught, 9/9/23. Probably clear, dark. Tan head slowly to light cover. Chocolate, vanilla, hazelnut, no aggressive roast. Clean with good mineral and balancing acidity from malt. Assertive chocolate, moderate roast, moderate acidity, lingering bitter prune and plum. Chocolate lingering alongside vanilla and hazelnut. Maybe a bit more dark malt than I'd prefer, though I guess this is a Schwarzbier not a dunkel, so maybe that's acceptable? Does remind of Kostritzer, though it's been almost 20 years since I've had that one.

Draft at brewpub. Dark brownish black pour and some beige sudsy head to top. Nose is chalky chocolate. Tatses of resin, chalk, chocolate, earthy coffee, some rootbeer. Medium bodied. Some bitterness.
