pours very dark brown, settles very dark brown with a thick large smooth light brown head.
Aroma is chocolate, hard roasted crisp malts.
flavor is irish stoutish dry malty with finer notes of chocolate, texture is a bit watery but very much in line with the style, and actaully on the smoother end of the style. reminds me of guinnes, but this one is a very much improved version of guinness, gourmet guinness i guess.

Charlton draught, 4/19/24. Clear, cola-tinted hazelnut. Small, dark beige head sits at cover. Lots of chocolate, licorice and bitter roast in the nose. Very zippy and aromatic. Clean. Charred. More char, licorice, bitter roast and a medium-light body. Obvious comparisons to Guinness find this one being a bit fuller and much, much more assertively bitter and chocolatey. Hint of sweetness as it warms. Nice amount of flavor here and well-done for the style. Not nearly as boring to drink, and still drinkable.

Pours a dark, cola-black, with smallish tan head. Aroma is chocolate, burnt toast, coffee. Flavor follows, with roasted grain and a mildly bitter finish.
Earlier Rating: 3/19/2023 Total Score: 3.9
Pours a dark, brown-black, cola color, with smallish tan head that dissipates rather quickly. Aroma is burnt toast, roasted grain, some coffee, unsweetened chocolate. These notes are all present in the flavor, along with some leather. Mouthfeel is fairly crisp. Some caramel and chocolate in the finish, though dry, not sweet.
