Our first-ever holiday release is an allusion to world-renowned Burton Ale, brewed in 18th & 19th Century Burton-on-Trent, England. Ours is proudly brewed on Holt Avenue in St. Louis honouring the traditional brewing techniques and mineral-rich water which made the English malts and hops sing! Enjoy the rich caramel sweetness with a big bready mouthfeel which magically finishes dry. Somehow crisp and creamy, citrusy, with hints of almond butter and cacao nibs. Pairs magnificently with whatever you’re eating, whatever you’re doing, and wherever you’re going this holiday season. Export-strength so you can spread the good cheer far and wide!

Can thanks to Paul. Pours a dark amber with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is toasted malt and caramel. Slick body, toffee, toast, cocoa, light finish, very nice.

Canned, 355 ml, courtesy of Raleigh. Shared with him and MiroB. Brown with beige head. Dark caramel, malty, bit nutty, toasted, nice intensive bitter finish. Very dry.

Brewery draught, 2/16/24. Clear darker amber alternating with chestnut. Large, dark beige head, strong retention. Toasted malts and big nuttiness with mineral-rich notes from water and a moderately fruity yeast. Doesn't seem overdone on the roasted malt. Clean. Clean, crisp, snappy, hoppy, wow! Love the hops here, and the toasted malt isn't overdone. Great body, great attenuation. Tons of mineral and appropriate bitterness. Certainly nothing flashy here, but very well-done.

Pour is a murky brown with a large tan head. Aroma is some brown ale malt with some sweet molasses. Flavor is a better toffee and caramel with some earthy essence and I get a tobacco after the swallow. Decent English strong without being overly strong. The Civil Life has a way with malts and this beer is no different.

Keg at the brewery, 12/17/16. Hazy copper, large creamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of toasted malt, yeast, bitter hops. The taste is caramel, toffee, cherries, mild herbal hops. Medium bodied, refreshing.
