Generational was brewed in collaboration with all of our friends at Half Acre Beer Company in Chicago Illinois. We melded together our favorite aspects of each brewery's pinnacle Imperial Stout recipes to create this non-adjunct experience. A showcase of the barrel, the recipe and the more than 2 years of time this beer rested in Buffalo Trace barrels, before finishing in Cognac Barrels, we share this beer with you as a Generational testament of each family's brewery.

Oh boy this pours nice and thick and oily. No head, just thick and black. Very boozy upfront with the cognac certainly not subdued. The bourbon is there, but definitely behind the cognac barrel. Vanilla, cognac fruitiness, oak, chocolate, coffee. There’s plenty going on but it’s not as balanced as I would hope. I guess I’ve never been a huge fan of cognac barrels and beer. It’s too much in the forefront. As well as the warmth in the back of my throat at the end. Don’t get me wrong, it really good. Just not up to many other Side Project BA blends that I’ve tried and prefer. It’s still going to get a damn solid score though!

Cellar draught, 2/13/24. Dark, probably clear, no head. Rich malt showing a good blend of caramel, gentle roast, hints of vanilla from barrel and light pepper and graphite from the whiskey. Lots of vinous character, light soy, light oxidation, but nothing remotely problematic. Long port on the finish. Hint of raisin. Very aromatic. Wow, that's a lot of raisin, pepper, light grape, big barrel vanilla with moderate wood tannin. Juicy, thick but not syrupy, sweet, not overly so. Not boozey. I'd like just a hint more acidity from dark malt or some bourbon spice in place of whiskey/tannin/alcohol, but hard to complain, as usual. Ok, somehow the next day this is much better. I guess a little breathing in the keg didn't hurt.

Bottle at Side Project. Pours black with small tan head. The aroma is cognac, chocolate, oak, roasted malt. Slick body, chocolate, roast, vanilla, cognac, wood, velvety finish, enjoyed this.
