A malt forward, classic German ale with a subtle spiciness from the use of rye malt.

Hazy amber-brown, a bit bubblegummy on the nose. Medium body, definitely some gummy phenols, and the finish is far too sweet for an alt.

On tap at Deschutes, pours a clear copper with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out lightly sweet cereal malts, along with a touch of rye and crusty bread. Flavour is much the same, not very creative, with a sweet cereal malt characteristic that dominates. Not very interesting, but drinkable enough.

Tap at the Portland venue. Pours amber with a white head. Malty aroma. Med body. Flavor is malty, mildly spicy, arguably with a bit of herb/grass. Not dry, but far from sweet. A tasty dark alt. Finishes malty, spicy and a little bitter.
