This beer is a brownish-amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, oak and fruit. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, whiskey, cherries and hops. The finish is oaky with an earthy hops and fruit aftertaste. Above average overall.

Bottle from Healthy Spirits, SF, February 2014. Amber with a small head. Quite sweet with dried fruit, oak, whisky, light malt and some fruit. Some warming alcohol in the finish. An ok one.

Bomber. Aroma is not as oaky as the New Spiraled one, although it is there. The fruit comes through more in this version. I smell the cherries in this one--maraschino, lemon and oranges too. Appearance is the same. Although I appreciate the aroma in the new oak spirals more for it’s strong oak presence, the flavor on this one is more interesting. The rye imparts an appealing spiciness. Again, the similarities to the Old Fashioned cocktail are remarkable. Palate is the same, a little too thin. Although I gave it the same score as the new oak, this one is better. The aroma isn’t as nice, but my overall impression is higher. Also underrated.

Bomber. Pours a cloudy reddish color with a medium white head. A sweet nose if toffee, caramel and fruit. The flavor is similar with big sweet malty notes, light barrel, vanilla and smoke. Heat. Pretty good.

27.06.2013, tap @ Top Hops Beer Shop NY:
Small creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly neutral, caramel malts, wood, toffee, dark sugar, vanilla, alcohol, grass, almond essence. Taste is slightly dry, caramel malts, wood, grass, alcohol, toffee, dark sugar, almond essence, vanilla. Medium bitterness, very dry mouthfeel. Fair enough, a little boring.

On tap at Belmont Station Bier Cafe, pours a murky dark orange with a small beige head. Aroma is quite subtle, with notes of alcohol, wood, and very subtle hints of dark fruit. Flavour brings out quite a bit of rye, some wood chips, and quite a bit of alcohol. Very bitter and sharp from the rye. Much better than the oak version. The fruits are completely buried by the rye. Better than the oak version, but this is a rye bomb.

Bomber from Belmont Station. Pours translucent copper with a yellow/beige head. Aroma of rye more than anything. Med + body. It starts with sweet fruit and a burn in the gullet. The oak and rum are strong. There’s noticeable fruit in this version. Finishes with wood, fruit and rum. Nearly dry. Shocking flavor range and very tasty.

Clear amber coloured body with hints of deep brown and a thin, half centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of pure alcohol - whiskey, scotch, rye and some oak with vanilla and pit fruits - pungent. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong assertive malts up front with a discrete earthiness, some strong sugars from pit fruits and caramel and toffee and a bit of a fruity note, tucked way behind the rye, alcohol and oak flavours that dominate. Aftertaste is okay, but a bit thin and watery and not complex enough, given the components. Overall, a decent beer - but I was expecting much more, especially from Cigar City. Nice to try, but definitely passable if something else is offered! I sampled this snifter on draught at Pony Bar in New York, New York on 13-July-2013 for US$5 (as always).
