6% US Hopped IPA
Freeman Street is an outstanding example of a classic American IPA. It’s ferociously hop-forward with flavours of citrus fruit, pine and a tantalising floral character. These bold US hops also deliver a biting bitterness that is balanced with just a hint of sweetness and caramel from the malt, which all lead to a moreish dry finish.

Can, small stable frothy bubbly head, clear and quite dark orange colour, pine, spiciness, maltiness, hint of melon, medium strong shrubby bitterness. Nice, a tad heavy.

440ml can from Thornbridge Beer Club - clear amber body with a rocky white top. Spruce nose with a bit of citrus. Taste is sharp and hoppy upfront with a lasting finish. Decent quality beer.

Rocky off white head on an amber coloured body. Bubble gum, sweet stone fruit & juicy tastes. Medium bodied smooth with a sharp dry back. Malt, marmalade, grapefruit & grain tastes with a faint sweeter stone fruit background & a bitter finish. Good one.

Can. Thornbridge subscription box. Clear deep gold. Slim leggy white foam. Pretty subdued aroma here. Definitely piny. Bit of creosote. Some caramelised citrus. Taste is quite sweet to start with a fairly hefty caramelised bitterness kicking in and lingering. Smooth and lightly oily. Lingering bitterness to finish. Could fancy halves of this on cask I reckon.

Cask at Ryrie's. Pours clear golden amber with a thin white head. Aromas of light toffee, dried fruit and jam. Taste is light bitter up front, then something sweet like candied peel or marzipan. Woody notes too. Light sweet finish.

On cask at Ryries. Appearance - golden to amber and clear. White head. Nose - burnt toffee and orange, Taste - dried orange and sweet toffee. Also fig and sultana. Palate - medium bodied, tangy and sweet middle with some cleansing though not complete on the finish. Overall -it's sweet for the style but good at the same time. Maybe it should've been classified as a strong ale.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours a golden amber with minimal white head. The aroma is decent, but nothing special – some tropical fruits with hints of honey. Slow to get going in the mouth as well. There’s some bitterness but plenty of caramel and malts as well. Then the hops flood in ! Seems like a mix of traditional and floral, plus plenty of pine and citrus together with just a little juiciness. Finish is intensely bitter. This is awesome – exactly what an IPA should be like. Not as in your face as Jaipur, but spectacular when it gets there. I went back for another …
