This sour "wild ale" recalls the earliest rustic beers crafted centuries ago before brewers had an understanding of controlled fermentation. Brewed with the addition of locally grown lemon verbena herb, as well as lactobacillus and wild brettanomyces yeast, Telegraph Reserve Wheat is an all-together different beast from modern beer. Light, tart and extremely refreshing, this special brew is available in extremely limited quantities.

750mL bottle, Batch 67. Aroma has a nice light wheat character with some moderate Brett character, mostly fruity but with some barnyard funk as well. Light acidity with moderate citrus character and some lemon verbena. Pours a fairly clear, pale yellow gold with a big, pillowy white head that slowly but steadily recedes. Light leaving and small legs. Flavor has a medium light acidity with quite a bit of citrus character, especially lemon. Light what character. Medium light peppery phenolic notes with some moderate Brett. Brett character is mostly tropical fruit and cherry pie with light barnyard funk. Nice dry finish with some pepper phenolics and a bit of citrus. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium high to high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a surprisingly decent beer with some nicely balanced phenolics and citrus character. Light acidity adds a bit more complexity as doors the nice, fruity Brett character.

Had this at Ratebeer’s Horny Devil Pittsburgh Winter Tasting 2012. Big thanks to Lithy for this beer. Pale yellow, has very little head, if any. Just a tad sweet on the nose. Nice fine creamy sizzling co2. This beer is very well behaved. Fun and good. Overall a very mild quite refined brew that I was really glad to have the chance to taste. Berliner, YUM! Iwish more of this style was readily availble in this area.

Bottle at The Funky 7, Brooklyn. Pours clear gold with a moderate, white head. Nice beer overall. Note of lemon in the aroma, some biscuit. Flavor has a pronounced tartness to it, some acidity, bits of citrus. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Tart finish, some must and funk. Solid beer overall. (August 2011, score: 4.0)
Bottle shared at the chriso and Ruth pre GBBF Shindig 2016 - London. Day 1. Pours clear yellow-gold with a foamy white head. Tangy lemon in the nose, dried wheat. Light sweet flavour, drying, with more lemony tartness, some bitter hay. Light bodied with average carbonation. Dry and cleaning on the finish, with further tangy lemon, wheat flakes. Not bad. (August 2016, score: 3.5)

Bottle @ home. Cloudy, light yellow appearance with a white head. A touch floral, lemon citrusy, mildly tart, lightly acidic aroma. Lemon spritzy, lightly tangy, very lightly sour, moderately to highly carbonated, lightly lactic flavor. Not much sourness on the finish.
