A standard American stout by style, however aged in Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels for 90 days. This full bodied stout presents with a black opaque appearance due to the heavy doses of dark malts and roasted barley. A blend of the dark grains, a portion of smoked malt, and a generous amount of pale malt lends to a filling and warming beer with notes of bourbon, caramel, coffee, toffee and smoke. I believe this is the right beer - seems hard to get the exact right bottle, with so many similar named beers by the same brewery! Deep pitch black coloured body with a dense fast-dying tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, milk, alcohol, bourbon, vanilla (strong), glue/paste, a touch of caramel and some nice sweetness. Medium to Full-bodied; Deep chewy mouthful of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate (lightish), raisins, sugar, bourbon, vanilla and cookies - crazy sweet and pretty potent. Aftertaste is strong, but very subtle and hides with the good balance of sweetness and alcohol without any harsh bittering flavours at all. Overall, a very well balanced, complex and well-executed beer especially for the style. You could drink a lot of these without knowing its potency or flavour profile, but you’d probably be showing it after 2 or 3! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia on 14-July-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 28-July-2010.

On tap at The Pub in downtown Louisville, Fourth Street Live. Pours opaque black with dark brown highlights and a medium beige head. Aroma is bourbon with a hint of chocolate, and taste is good chocolate, toffee, bourbon, some coffee, and a hint of smoke. Good beer.
