Not all new beers come from new beginnings. Combining Aramis and Strisselspalt hops from the Alsace region of France with unfermented Niagara Chardonnay must makes for a distinctly French take on an ale with strong Ontario roots. It is the ultimate act of balance between craft beer and lauded wine, between inspiration from afar and reverence for home.

Can from the lcbo. Slightly hazy golden pour, with a large white head. Malted wheat aroma, light orange zest, really I don't get any chardonnay, or vinous notes. Thus really just comes across as your run of the mill wheat ale. Really nothing special.

This ale poured a hazy, dark yellow with a creamy bright white head. Nice lacing. Scents include yeast, wieners, cloves and dough. First swig was really thin with flavours of clove, yeast and malt. Quite yeasty, the finish has hints of cloves and wieners. Really watery...

Now under Chardonnay Summer Ale. Pours a slight hazy, golden colour with a light amber hue. The white head is bubbly and fizzes away quickly, leaving no lacing. Belgian Ale yeast nose at first with spicy hops and some mild Chardonnay sweetness over the malts. The cereal grains come out first in the taste, and mostly yeast continues over this. Some hints of spices in the background. Nothing really awesome, as yeast is not very well-balanced with other goods.

Can from the LCBO. Lightly hazed medium amber with a large lingering white head leaving some sparse lace. Nose has some honey, grapes, nectarine, pear, pepper, grans and some floral notes. Flavour is lightly sweet honey and fruit with a light grassy bitterness and a touch of spice . Mouth is medium- with soft carbonation and a dry finish. Quite refreshing. 7+/4-/7/3/13+
