12oz bottle. Orange-tan body. Lots of carbonation bubbles rising to meet a big, foamy, soapy, off-white head. A little old school certainly, but still a decent IPA. Chewy malt tones and a mellow piny grapefruit hop flavor. Fruity English yeast tones. Can’t compete with the World Class beers, but is still an enjoyable, well made beer.

Draft Barn, Brooklyn tap ($6): Purchased this as Lionshead IPA, but this appears to be the same beer according to my research, but if not, please correct me. Pours orange with a white head. Aroma is bland and normal IPA. Taste is attenuated IPA. There ain’t nothing in here that you wouldn’t or shouldn’t expect.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark golden color with a small foamy off-white head that faded and left no lacing. The aroma was caramel and faint floral and fruity hops. The flavor was bitter and dryish with hints of caramel, floral hops, fruity hops and pepper. Medium finish and body. Eh.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Pours a hazy copper color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of resin hops with nutty, toasted malts. The taste is bitter resin hops, some citrus and pale malts. Medium bodied. Decent.

Crisp amber and copper coloured body with a thick tan head that fades fast. Aroma of apricots, pears, light hops, copper and a bit of other metallic notes. Light-bodied; Sharp hop notes at first with a relatively minor grapefruit and grassy note with a mellow malt and herbal finish. Aftertaste has a subdued grassy and herbal note with a bit of perfume and almost no distinct hops to speak of - still a bit better than some of the worst, but that isn’t saying much. Overall, not a great beer, but truly not one of the worst IPAs, somewhere in the middle, closer to the bottom. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 09-November-2011 for US$1.29 sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 12-November-2011.

Well, I wasn’t expecting much hops in this steg IPA; just some mild imitation of an IPA. But I was wrong, this stuff is on style and better in style than many microbrew IPA I’ve had, very surprized! Big hoppy pine or spruce aroma. Taste is big bitter hops blast. Yes, a very terribly on style IPA. Barely any co2. Oily soapy mouth coating nastiness. Roto-till my palte, will yah? Waytoo much for this lager loven tongue, WEW! Big bitter linger, borders on double IPA territory!

Bottle shared by Sean, thanks! Poured a clear gold with a white head that dissipated to the edge. Aroma was slight pine but mainly sweet grains. Flavor also had a slight bitter pine note but sweet bread and grains were the dominate notes for this beer.

Caramel and floral aroma, not real strong. Clear amber, thin head, some lacing. Malt forward with tea and grass notes. Filmy mouthfeel. Not bad, but there is something very Saranac-ish about it. I’m wondering if they source the same ingredients.
