Tasting at Matt’s
Dark brown color. A lot of nutty aroma, and cocoa. Medium body, quite smooth mouthfeel, a lot of roasted malts and some cocoa powder with medium chili.
Confused.

Medium brown. There’s a lot of coffee and a little bit of vanilla bean in the nose. Has a mellow coffee character, with a medium body. There’s some toasty, chocolatey taste. Not the greatest, nor the most complex beer.

650mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out harsh spicy pepper and cocoa nibs. Flavour brings out harsh spicy peppers upfront, with green pepper, harsh smoke and dry spiciness. Not sure what the hell they were going for. Not terrible, but pretty weak.

Bottle from the brewer. Cloudy dark brown with a fluffy one finger tan head that fades fairly quickly. Nose is primarily powdered cocoa with some vanilla and a definite hot pepper lurking. Moderate chocolate bitterness with a spice that enhances rather than distracts from the chocolate. Medium mouth with soft carbonation and a residual heat in the finish. Interesting. 8-/4/7+/3+/15+
