Cask at The Coach & Horses, Rickmansworth, Herts. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a medium off white head on top. Roasty, malty aroma. Tastes roasty, malty, dry and bitter. Pretty good.

Cask half pint at The George Inn, Borough. Dark ruby colour, off-white to beige head. Malty aroma, notes of moderately roasted malts. The roastiness comes through a bit stronger in the flavour, but the beer is still fairly smooth and mild to drink. Fairly bitter finish.

Cask at the Dove Street Inn, Ipswich. Pours very dark brown with a lasting beige head. Aroma is malty, light roasted chocolate and liquorice, hoppy with dark fruits. Light sweetness, medium bitterness. Medium body, oily texture. Finish is dry, fruity. Very good dark malty ale.

Gravity cask at the Rose & Crown, Sandhurst. An opaque dark mahogany colour with a loose beige head; sweet chocolate aroma; really dry and malty in the mouth with a deep earthy licorice bitterness; and a long dry finish. Very satisfying.

Near-black red beer. Beige head. Sweet fruit and toasted malt in both the smell and taste. Seems too sweet at first but there is some bitterness that comes through to balance it out. Not bad.
