This brown ale is fantastically nutty thanks to the addition of chestnut flour, yet remains wonderfully sessionable.

Bottle from the Grumpy Goat, Reading. Chestnut in hue (to match the name) with a lasting beige head and a middling fizz. Roasted chestnuts up front (yep, this beer certainly lives up to its name, and I'm pretty sure it's not autosuggestion). Black pepper, Dundee cake, crisp dry leaves, rich roasted malt, leaf mulch and pecan pie. Nuts may be the main theme, but there's a lot more than that going on here - it's a full-flavoured (but we'll balanced) and very satisfying brew that slips down very easily and is very more-ish. A great autumnal beer.

Many thanks to Grumbo for this bottle! Great nutty malty beginning. Not too sweetish, intense and rich, the roasted malt is smooth, hazelnuts / chestnuts, moderate bitter. Full-bodied, round and malty with a great hazelnut-malty aftertaste. Nice sessionable and deep nutty roasted brew.
