Colchester Beer Festival. Cask. Opaque dark brown beer, residual tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. The dark malts bring a little roast bitterness that blends with some hoppy floral bitterness. Tangy fruits. Finishes light and bitter. A little tiresome.

Cask at the 8th Chappel Winter Beer Festival. Pours almost black with a bubbly beige head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, vanilla, toffee and dark fruits. Medium sweetness and medium roasted bitterness. Medium body and slight sticky texture, carbonation is average to soft. Finish is dry, fruity.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 7/11/2016. Near black in colour with a moderately sized, off-white, head. Aroma of plain chocolate, charred malts and liquorice. Flavour had more chocolate and charcoal notes before a dryish finish. Enjoyable.

Handpull cask at the Mill, Cambridge. Black with a small creamy head. Liquorice, candy sugar, spruce aroma. Taste is sweet with a hint of bitter astringency. Well balanced bitter aftertaste. Hints of tobacco in the finish. Nice texture to the body. Enjoyable.
