Cask at The Pennsylvanian (Wetherspoons), Rickmansworth, Herts. A dark amber/brown coloured pour with a medium off white head on top. Malty, caramel, dark fruit aroma and taste. Not a bad effort but rather thin and watery, not in the best condition.

Growler picked up from the brewery. A copper chestnut coloured pour with a loose beige head. Aroma is semi sweet toffee, liquorice, bruised grape, raisin, light spice. Flavour is composed of layered nutty malts, liquorice, light wintergreen, numbing winter spices, strawberry jammy fruits. Palate is semi sweet, fine mellow cask condition. Decent malty beverage.

[Cask at the Royal Standard, Wooburn Common.] A reddish copper coloured pour with a ring of white head; vinous aroma; quite thin in the mouth, and with a definite taste of vanilla fudge, followed by some soft brown sugar' then finishing with a kick of burnt sugar bitterness before a fudgy finish. Very good.

Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Russet-brown with a thick beige head. Rich and warming in the mouth. Tastes of toffee, rich malt, dark fruits, muscovado sugar, rum and a little earthy straw. Sweetish yet with just enough hop presence to balance it and make it dangerously drinkable. Full-flavoured, yet mellow, smooth and very more-ish, this is easily the best I've had from Rebellion. Excellent stuff, and one of the very few UK winter/Christmas cask beers I've had in recent years that is actually right for the season. Well done Rebellion!

Cask at the Bootlegger, 24/12/16. Reddish amber with a decent light beige cap. Nose is malts, brown bread, light spice, earthy, nutty, biscuit crumble, toffee. Taste comprises toffee, fruit rinds, dates, light spice, cheescake base, nutty. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close with a bitter edge. Decent well balanced strong ale .. makes a change for a winter / christmas based beer to have a bit of depth to it in the UK!
